A section of Members of Parliament has vowed to impeach Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki over her decision to send Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Lily Koros on compulsory leave pending investigations into a mix-up that saw a brain surgery done on the wrong patient.
The group of 15 legislators, led by Aldai MP Cornelly Serem, announced that they had already collected 100 signatures in support of the motion.
Serem argued that Kariuki had no powers to direct the KNH board to make that decision.
“She has no legal mandate to fire or even to direct the board to send the CEO on compulsory leave. We are concerned at what is happening at KNH,” he stated.
The MPs spoke on the margins of the Post-Election Seminar for members of the National Assembly which was ongoing at Pride Inn Paradise, Mombasa.

Kipkelion West MP Hillary Kosgei and Ronal Tanui (Bomet Central) further claimed that Kariuki had agreed to a deal with cartels at the country's biggest referral hospitals.
They alleged that the cartels were out to loot KNH funds and accused them of orchestrating Koros' replacement.
Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi vowed that they would not relent in their quest to send Kariuki home.
“There is a trend we have started noticing in the way she is handling issues. Let her know that we’re very disappointed. We’re ready to pass this motion to send her home,” she declared.
Others who echoed their statements included Bungoma Women Representative Catherine Wambilianga and her Nakuru counterpart Liza Chelule.
