Woman Found in Possession of Anti-Snake Venom for Spiking Alcohol

A woman by the name Teresia Mwikali has been arrested in Kajiado after being caught with an anti-snake venom which police believe is used to spike alcoholic drinks.

The drug has been known to have a deadly sleeping effect on victims and is commonly referred to as ‘mchele’

Jospeh Koskey, the Acting Kitengela OCS, reveals that the suspect has wide connections in Nairobi, Mombasa  and Nakuru.

He revealed that the drug had a Shs 30,000 street value.

Five sachets with 10 three ml bottles each were found under the suspect’s possession. They bore the label puff adder.

"When the drug is laced on a drink, a victim is rendered motionless for close to 24 hours or even more," Koskey said.

The arrest was lauded as a major success on the fight against drugs given the many victims who have fallen prey to the drug.

Ms Mwikali was charged with five counts of illegal poison possession which is in contravention of Section 26 (2) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act.

Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi also charged her with the illegal operation of a pharmacy without registration.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges and was acquitted on a Shs. 5 million bond pending hearing and a surety of 1 million shillings in cash.
