IG Joseph Boinnet Dismantles Traffic Department

The Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, has dismantled the traffic department and has directed that any police officer can be deployed to do any traffic duties.

In the new guidelines, all traffic matters will be handled by police station commanders who will be designated to deal with the manning of traffic in their area of command.

The directive issued by IG Boinnet, further clarified that the station commanders would decide on whom to deploy to traffic duties

At the same time, the station commanders would deal with their normal duties of fighting crime.

In the report seen by the Star, there will be no police officers attached to the traffic department as any police officer can be deployed to manage traffic.

Initially, the department was disengaged in its operation and command.

The traffic officers were not answerable to the station chief, but to a base commander who is an officer in the rank of Chief Inspector.

IG Boinnet further ordered the deployment of all traffic base commanders to other police functions.

Nakuru county commander Hassan Barua has already implemented the IG's directive.

In a letter reference 1/3/6/3 Vol 94, he directed all traffic police in his county to report to station commanders and take charge of traffic management in their jurisdiction.
