Kenyans were on Tuesday engaged in heated discussions on social media including a hashtag that advocated for a little known Agnes Kagure Kariuki to be made the third deputy governor of Nairobi County.

Using the hashtag #AgnesKagure4DGNai, a number of netizens shared endorsements for the award-winning insurance professional.

Here are some of the posts that were shared.

In 2011, Business Daily ranked Ms Kagure as one of the Top 40 under 40 women to watch in the exclusive recognition that is awarded annually.

She also received an award for the best overall insurance agent from the CFC Life Assurance Company.

A women lobby group, Nairobi Women Caucus, brought up the debate to replace former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe who quit the position in June.

The two topics topped the trends on Twitter after the Ministry of Interior introduced new charges for replacing national identity cards.
