Kenya's Trending Topics on March 16, 2018

Kenyans were on Friday engaged in heated discussions over the trending topics of the day as the Nairobi rains dominated discussions for the second day in a row.

The hashtag #NairobiRains was the top trending topic of the day as residents of the capital continued to share their experiences with the current rainy season.

Here are some of the reactions that were shared on the hashtag.

Cuba

The topic trended on Friday as President Uhuru Kenyatta toured the South American country on an official State visit.

Former President Jomo Kenyatta was honoured with a monument that was officially unveiled by Uhuru. The monument was in honour of his efforts in the fight for Kenya's independence.

The topic also trended after a hilarious photo of Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju, who accompanied the President on the trip, emerged.

On the photo, Tuju was captured looking around while delegates from Kenya met with those from the Cuban government.

Moses Wetangula

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula trended through Friday after ODM Senators pushed a motion to replace him as the Minority Leader at the Senate.

The move that caused tension in the National Super Alliance (NASA) elicited mixed reactions from netizens as majority sought to advocate for his reinstatement.

"Moses Wetangula" also topped Google trends with over 2,000 searches on the popular search engine.

Athi River

Athi River trended on Friday after Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua closed Mombasa Road overnight after the river broke its banks. Flood waters also submerged Green Park Estate with the overflow.
