Kalonzo Musyoka Asks James Orengo to Reject Nomination as Senate Minority Leader

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has advised Siaya Senator James Orengo to reject his nomination as Senate Minority Leader following the removal of Moses Wetang'ula.

After Wetang'ula was officially ousted from his position on Tuesday, Kalonzo stated that if Orengo accepted the nomination, the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition would collapse.

"Orengo should decline the position of Senate minority leader. I don't want Jimmy (Orengo) to go down in history as the one who collapsed NASA," Kalonzo is quoted as telling K24.

Following Wetang'ula's removal, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was also selected to deputize Orengo.

Ford-K officials are reportedly in a closed-door meeting to plot their next move following the ouster that was orchestrated by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislators.

Wetang'ula had earlier promised that a divorce of the NASA-affiliate parties would be 'noisy and messy'.

ODM Senators are said to have ousted Wetangula as they preferred someone who was willing to fully support the talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga.

Wetangula, alongside co-principals Kalonzo and Musalia Mudavadi, were caught off-guard by the surprise talks and later called for 'inclusive dialogue'.

Raila distanced himself from the ouster stating that it was purely a Senate affair.

At a funeral in Elgeyo-Marakwet over the weekend, Orengo alluded to the no-show by the three principals at the January 30 swearing-in of Raila as the People's President at Uhuru Park, noting that they abandoned the opposition chief at his time of need.
