Recently police warned that there was a rise in killer gangs in Mombasa and asked residents to be vigilant.

In March, Kwale residents raised fears of Mombasa's Wakali Kwanza gang spreading its activities to the county.

This followed attacks in Matuga at Ng'ombeni by the infamous machete and knife-wielding group.

Their activities were widespread in Kisauni before police wiped out most of the members.

Samuel Towet, an assistant county commissioner, said security officers have been directed to deal with the gang.

"An operation has started to weed out the gang. We are urging the community to give any report on insecurity for our intervention," he was quoted last month.

According to reports, the gangs are made up of boys who are drug addicts and have become idle since the end of electioneering period.

Many of the members are school drop out and cant fed themselves well, therefore, they have resorted to attacking, stealing and robbing residents to survive.
