CS Fred Matiang'i Summoned Over Sh3.3 Billion School Land Case

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i was on Tuesday summoned to appear before Parliament to disclose the Ministry of Education's acquisition of 13.8 acres of land at Ksh 3.3 Billion.

The Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee (PAIC) also ordered the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to produce the directors of three firms who had been paid Ksh 1.5 billion for the land.

On the same day, the committee fined the directors Ksh 500,000 after they failed to appear before them.

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, who is the chair of the committee, termed the director's snubbing of the summons as contempt.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) further ceased the National Land Commission (NLC) from making another payment of the over Ksh1.7 Billion remaining for the land until it completes investigations on the same.

The issue is currently being looked at by two committees, the Senate's PAIC and the National Assembly's Committee on Lands.

In his defense, NLC Chairman Muhammad Swazuri noted that the payments made were in order and that they are in possession of the documents proving that.

Matiang'i together with the directors are expected to appear before the Senate committee on April 17.

On Tuesday morning, the CS, together with the Inspector General of Police appeared before the National Security and Administration Committee to give a report on the surroundings of the second deportation of NRM-K general Miguna Miguna.

Matiang'i, Boinnet, and Immigration Department PS Gordon Kihalagwa refuted allegations that they had defied court orders, claiming that they were not served with any order.
