Githu Muigai Appointed Council of Legal Education Chairman

Former Attorney General Githu Muigai who recently resigned from his position has been appointed the new chairperson of the Council of Legal Education.

Muigai officially handed over to former Court of Appeal Judge Paul Kihara Kariuki this week and stated that he would continue dealing with legal matters.

During the function, he defended his record at the State Law Office, noting that he did his best and that he trained and maintained a professional team.

“I am not going to use this function to defend my record but just to say this: every objective historian will say I and my team made every best effort here,” he stated.

When he took over, Prof Muigai had promised to ensure that the multi-billion-shilling Anglo Leasing and Goldenberg cases lodged during the Moi and Kibaki administrations would be concluded but he did not succeed.

The two cases had soiled the reputation of the State Law Office, which dithered on both the prosecution and investigations.

By the time he left, the Anglo Leasing case was still in court while Justice Joseph Mutava had cleared controversial businessman Kamlesh Pattni.

Former Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kazungu Kambi, who contested the Kilifi governor seat in the last election but lost, has been appointed to chair the board of the Coast Development Authority.

Former Interior PS Mutea Iringo will head the board of the National Cereals and Produce Board while former Karachuonyo MP James Rege has been picked to chair the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company.

Former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, on the other hand, was named the new chairman of the Kenyatta National Hospital board.
