KANU Chairman Gideon Moi Issues New Directive on 2022 Succession Politics

The Kenya African National Union (KANU) party has backed deputy president William Ruto in the call for leaders to shelve discussions on 2022 succession politics.

KANU national chairman and Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, on Sunday urged leaders to focus on service delivery to those who elected them.

"It time for leaders to change the lives of the people, make it better than they found it. Do not let the people down, don’t betray their trust in you," he stated.

Senator Moi, who might vie for the presidency in 2022, clarified that his ambition for the top position would come "at the right time".

The Senator assured residents that his primary focus is to advocate for his Local Content Bill which seeks to have mining companies give part of their proceeds to locals.

West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo reiterated the party boss' sentiments, asking elected leaders to altogether quit politicking.

"We are only seven months in office and President Uhuru Kenyatta is four months in office. MPs have not thanked their voters and we have not seen anything on National Government Constituency Development Funds.

"Do not talk politics, go home and serve your people," he agitated during the homecoming party for Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamket.

Kisumu Central MP Fred Ouda, however, urged Senator Moi not to abandon his ambition for the presidency even though DP Ruto seemed to have the advantage of being in office.

"Being near the kitchen door does not make you a cook," he metaphorised.

Emurua Dikir legislator Johana Ng'eno added: "Ruto may be ahead of everyone else, but Kalonzo Musyoka was once the Deputy President; he is now watching on the sidelines."
