Musician Lady Maureen Jailed in Tanzania

Kenyan musician Maureen Otiu, popularly known as Lady Maureen, was sentenced to six months in jail by a court in Tanzania.

The musician who is appealing for financial help to bail her and her band members out of the Tanzanian jail alongside where they have spent nine days.

Lady Maureen was sentenced alongside her band members, Nyar Ng’ato Traditional Dancers, to six months in jail with bail set at Ksh35,000 each.

The musician and her band are reported to have travelled to Mwanza, Tanzania for a show last weekend without travel documents.

Musicians from Nyanza region formed a WhatsApp group to raise funds to bail out the singer and her band members.

Reports have also alleged that some of the musicians based in Nyanza have proposed a mini-concert to help raise more funds.

Lady Maureen is alleged to have held similar shows in Tanzania in the past without any hitches since her parents are based in the country.

This comes barely two months after the singer collapsed on stage while preparing to perform during her debut album launch event in Nairobi.

Lady Maureen was rushed to Nairobi Women’s hospital where she was treated and discharged.

The musician stated that some people might have had a hand in the botched album launch after the power went out at the club where she was to launch it.
