Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Splashes 100K on Nyama Choma

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday rewarded a section of the county employees a whooping Ksh 100,000 for lunch.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Sonko termed the gift a "motivation to the staff" for their commendable service to the public.

The move came shortly after the county boss made several impromptu visits to a number of Nairobi City County Government health centers to assess the service delivery standards offered to the public.

Pleased with the level of services delivered by the employees, Sonko tokenized the employees the money instructing them "Nyote mkule nyama choma. (That is for all of you to have barbecued meat.")

This saw the county employees in the undisclosed health center applaud the governor following the kind gesture.

Sonko further promised that he would ensure sufficient supply of drugs for the county health facilities.

As part of the oversight and supervision role, the governor also made an impromptu visit to the City Hall where the county headquarters are housed.

Sonko's hands-on leadership style has seen the county revenues rise dramatically over the past few months.

On March 30, the Governor communicated that the county had collected a record Ksh120 million revenue within a day.

Addressing speculations of ascending to the position of Deputy President come 2022, Sonko underplayed his intention to deputize DP William Ruto stating that he can serve in any capacity and not necessarily the second most powerful office in the land.
