Senator James Orengo Demands Resignation of Remaining IEBC Commissioners

Siaya Senator James Orengo on Monday demanded the resignation of the remaining commissioners and the entire secretariat of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

In a statement to newsrooms, Orengo termed the commission as cursed after the resignation of commissioners Consolata NkathaMargaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat.

The Senate Minority leader noted that the resignations were as a result of an incurable and cancerous disease that bedevils the commission.

Orengo stated: “Chebukati must now lead the other commissioners out of IEBC by tendering his resignation letter together with those of the other remaining commissioners and the entire Secretariat.”

He further referred to the commission as a “felonious enterprise” alleging that the commissioners got greedy during the procurement exercise.

“The commission has refused the conduct of a system audit and the right of access to data retained in its systems including the servers following the presidential elections last year," Orengo stated.

"It has miserably failed accountability, efficiency and accuracy tests as stipulated in the constitution,” the Siaya Senator added.

Orengo further maintained that corruption was deeply rooted in the electoral agency adding that it cost the former ICT Manager Chris Msando his life.

He stated: “The debate on electoral justice should include a discussion on the structure of the Executive. Its present design is incompatible with the creation of a nation based on inclusivity, protection of the well-being of communities and the nation, social justice and shared prosperity.”

The lawmaker added: “We have completely abandoned the ethics, values and principles upon which the Republic was established under the Constitution of Kenya 2010.”
