Mike Sonko's Chief Finance Officer Nominee Admits She is Inexperienced

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Wednesday embarrassed by his pick for the County Chief Finance Officer (CFO) who admitted that she wasn't a good fit for the job.

Mary Nyambura Maina told Members of County Assembly (MCAs) that she was inexperienced in handling billions that would be entrusted to her by the county government.

Ms Maina, who currently works at a government parastatal, told the Finance, Budget and Appropriation Committee that she would, however, adhere to the standard operating procedures to avoid mishaps.

"As much as I do not have the experience I will follow the rules. I plan to immerse myself into the job and learn the process," she explained.

She cited that at her current position, she manages two clerks who handle less than Ksh1 Million in transactions.

According to the 2018 County Allocation Revenue Bill, Ms Maina will be required to handle a sum total of Ksh15.7 Billion which is the highest of the amounts entrusted to all 47 counties in Kenya.

Sonko recently suffered a bitter fall out with his /county executive Council Member for the finance docket after he discovered the CECM was in contact with former Governor Evans Kidero.

The finance executive was fired from his position and he proceeded to give an expose of the inner workings of City Hall in an article on the Sunday Nation.

Governor Sonko profusely denied the details leaked to the paper, accusing the publication of sinister motives to portray him as a "failed governor".

Former CFO Ekaya Alumasi was sacked along with the indicted CEC Danvas Makori.
