DP Ruto Excites Kenyans After Helping Farmers Auction Chicken

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday excited Kenyans on social media after he posted images of himself auctioning chicken in Uasin Gishu.

The DP posted: "At the Kamagut chicken auction, Uasin Gishu County."

Ruto was accompanied by Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen, who was also attending the event in Turbo Constituency.

On his social media page, the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator noted: "Tulikuwa pale Kambi Kuku, Turbo Constituecy tukinunua kuku. Yule Jamaa wa kuku ndiye alikuwa auctioneer. (We were at Kambi Kuku, Turbo Constituency buying chicken. The chicken guy was the one who was the auctioneer.)"

The DP was the Chief Guest at the arguably biggest chicken auction in the county along the busy Eldoret- Malaba Highway.

Mr Ruto was also once a chicken seller, carrying out his trade at the very Kambi Kuku market.

He sold local chicken (kuku kienyeji) on the Great North Road for between Ksh11 and Ksh13 to truck drivers hauling cargo to Uganda and beyond.

Ruto, who refers to himself as a hustler, encouraged local farmers to consider modern methods of farming to boost their yield.

"We encourage small-scale business people, including poultry farmers to tap into modern rearing methods such as quality feeds, construction of permanent brooder pens, improved storage facilities and value addition," the DP advised farmers.

Also at the event were Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, Energy CS Charles Keter and MP Oscar Sudi.

Kenyans on Twitter lauded the DP for not forgetting where he came from and even going back to help those who are currently in that business.
