Mudavadi, Wetangula Abandoned by Western Leaders

NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula have come under attack after their unity deal angered a section of leaders from Western Kenya.

Led by Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, the leaders are said to have abandoned them over claims that in the last 10 years, the two have not had any meaningful development agenda for the region.

The western leaders further accused Mudavadi and Wetangula of trying to scuttle the Luhya unity hence the call to have them give way to new leadership.

"What they need to know is that Western region has no shortage of leaders to help our people," CS Wamalwa stated.

Governor Oparanya rubbished the formation of a new political outfit by the two leaders to contest the presidency in 2022.

"We are telling Mudavadi and Wetangula to stop taking Luhyas for a ride. How do they hope to clinch the presidency when all they do is make brief visits to Kakamega, Vihiga, and Bungoma and claim they are on a campaign trail," the Kakamega County chief posed.

On his part, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala on Sunday faulted the two politicians claiming that it was time they read the signs on the wall and exit the political arena.

"We can longer dance to their tune and empty promises when all they do is undermine initiatives at uniting the Luhya community to speak with one voice," Malala asserted.

According to the Kakamega Senator, Wetangula was only championing for Luhya unity after feeling that his political interests were at stake.

Malala questioned why Wetangula's call for Luhya unity came after losing the Senate Minority Leader post adding that the Bungoma legislator "should stop playing games with the community in the hope of redeeming his political fortunes."
