Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, Senator Amos Wako Summoned Over Anglo Leasing Scandal

Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua, along with former Attorney General Amos Wako, has been summoned to appear in court to testify on the Anglo Leasing scandal.

Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo on Monday issued the order to appear in court citing that the two were key witnesses in the proceedings of the case.

The magistrate cited that the two had failed to appear before the court despite previous summonses while giving a June date for them to appear.

"I have noted the concerns raised by the defense, and I hereby issue summons against Mr Kinyua, and Mr Wako, to attend court on June 27," Kombo stated.

Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi's proxy - Sadina Carren - representing the accused had agitated for the prosecution to be pressured to move and avoid delaying the case.

Mr Kinyua was serving as a Permanent Secretary at the Planning ministry during the Nyayo era and later at the Treasury when former President Mwai Kibaki took over the government.

He is expected to testify for the prosecution in the suit where senior government officials and some businessmen are accused of participating in the award of "irregular" security tenders from the State.

Busia Senator Wako has been asked to witness in the suit because some of the controversial security tenders received approval from his office as well as the Cabinet.

The court has also allowed some foreign witnesses to testify via a video link. These include Clyde Christopher P. Marklew, a resident of United Kingdom, and Professor Jason Sharman, an Australian citizen living in the UK.

Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Emily Kamau was allowed to recall an earlier witness, Ethics and EACC deputy CEO Michael Mubea who they accidentally forgot to issue with relevant documents to produce in court.
