James Orengo's Fiery Speech at Matiba's Funeral

Siaya Senator James Orengo on Thursday gave a fiery speech during the funeral of the late Kenneth Matiba in Murang'a.

During his address, Orengo pointed out that he worked closely with Matiba in the fight for multipartism and went ahead to divulge that the late Minister was worthy of going to heaven.

"I may not be a prophet but if ever there is a politician who will go to heaven, it is Kenneth Matiba.

"I’m not sure about the rest including myself," he remarked as mourners applauded him.

The vocal senator also bemoaned the fact that leaders only came together during funerals, asking the opposition and the government to unite efforts towards building a better nation.

"Time has come that every Kenyan should decide to build one country which is Kenya. I find it very disappointing that we are only united when there is a funeral.

"With this new dispensation (handshake between President Kenyatta and Odinga) we should shun tribalism and unite as Kenyans.

"We as politicians should speak one language without calling each other names," he added.

As he concluded his speech, the senator urged all leaders who wronged Matiba to apologise to his family, noting that he knows one of them.

"Kenyan leadership should apologise to the family of Kenneth Matiba for what they've put the family under through what they subjected him to.

"I know one of them (who tortured Matiba). They should be dealt with perpendicularly," he stated.
