Royal Media Services (RMS) owner SK Macharia on Friday lost one of his sons, John Macharia, in a tragic road crash along the Southern bypass.

The young Macharia was one of the four sons and two daughters born to the business mogul and his wife Purity Gathoni Macharia

He was the Executive Director of Kenya's leading public service vehicles underwriters, Direct Line Assurance Limited.

According to the underwriter's website, John had over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector in addition to having started other companies in a similar line of business.

"A seasoned entrepreneur, Mr Macharia is credited with introducing insurance premium financing in Kenya having founded and run Triple A Capital Limited.

"Mr Macharia is an Executive Director at Harbour Capital with over 20 years experience in the financial services sector," his company profile read in part.

Triple A is a financial institution that works together with other entities including public institutions to facilitate operations such as the acquisition of European Union (EU) funding, for example, the euro bond.

He holds a degree in Economics and Computer Science from Trent University Ontario Canada.

In 2016, John bumped into a Prado while driving his Porsche saloon car around Museum Hill, Nairobi where he escaped unhurt.

Police arrested the media mogul's son on drunk driving charges and was later released along with his impounded vehicle.

At the time, he was alone in the car, however, in the Thursday night crash he was said to have been with a female passenger in the car who escaped with minor injuries.
