Police Reveal Why They Haven't Arrested Men Who Assaulted Peter Muriuki

Nairobi police boss Joseph Ole Tito has revealed that they have not been able to arrest the goons who attacked former Nairobi CBD Association Chairman Timothy Muriuki because of the tactics they are using to evade authorities.

Tito divulged that a Monday operation to arrest one of them was not successful after the suspect switched off his phone and move to another area.

“He escaped but we shall catch up with them. We have mounted another operation this morning. No one is protecting them and that is why we have placed a Sh500, 000 on each of them,” he asserted.

It is alleged that another has been evading police by moving to different parts of the city but the search will continue until they are nabbed.

Members of the public have also been urged to volunteer any information they might have regarding the suspects.

Last week, Central Police division boss Robinson Thuku stated that the goons had been identified and their names would be revealed soon.

Thuku added that no one had been arrested but camera images had made their work lighter.

“From camera images, the men have been identified and it’s only a matter of time before we arrest them. We shall also release their names," he told members of the press.

During the incident, the attackers roughed up Muriuki and accused him of tarnishing Governor Mike Sonko's name, threatening to throw him into a swimming pool.

Sonko disassociated himself from the men alleged to be his aides, asking the police to act swiftly and arrest them.

Although the goons claimed they assaulted the ex-NCBDA chairman in the name of the Nairobi governor, he maintained there was no way he could have sent thugs to accost someone who was issuing a statement to support him.
