Chief Inspector of Police Sebastian Ambani Shoots Student Dead

Chief Inspector of Police Sebastian Ambani on Thursday allegedly shot dead a student at KCA University, Kisumu campus.

The 24 year-old student identified as Brian Makabwa Chacha was undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the lakeside town.

Reports indicate that the two were partying at a local bar on Thursday night when a quarrel ensued at 6:40 pm.

In the ensuing scuffle, Ambani is said to have withdrawn his Ceska pistol and shot the student on the head killing him on the spot.

He later escaped from the scene in Mamboleo Market but was later apprehended and put in custody in Osiepe area.

The police boss, who was off duty, is said to be attached ato Kuria West Division, in Migori County.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, KCA Kisumu Campus officials were reluctant to divulge the details although the Dean of Students of Nairobi Campus confirmed that the incident occurred without divulging more information.

According to Kisumu County Commander John Kamau, the police inspector is being held at Kondele Police Station.

Police have often been accused of brutality targeting innocent students with the shooting of Meru University Student Association Secretary-General, Evans Njoroge, during a riot in February caused a nationwide uproar.

Eyewitnesses at Nchiru, a village near the institution, claimed that one police officer chased down Njoroge to a nearby farm and shot him in cold blood.

“The students came running and some entered through our main gate before disappearing into the farm," a witness narrated.

The police spotted one of them (Njoroge) hiding under a tree and shot him dead as he was trying to run away.
