According to witnesses around Kinoo area, the lorry ferrying sand ploughed into seven vehicles after its brakes failed.

This accident comes just under a week after one police officer was killed and 12 High School students injured after a lorry rammed into a school van on Thika road.

A day later, Murang'a County Public Service Board chairman Titus Kinyanjui Waithaka was killed along the same road in another grisly accident.

The road crash was as a result of his vehicle hitting a guardrail along the superhighway that tore through the body of the car.

Nairobi leads in road fatalities despite being the smallest of the 47 counties, contributing 20 per cent of all accidents in Kenya, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) said at an international workshop on Wednesday.

NTSA Safety Strategies and County Coordination deputy director, Duncan Kibogong, added that a majority of deaths occur among young people aged between 24 and 34 with Nairobi alone recording over 400 deaths annually.
