Raphael Tuju's Statement on Jubilee Impeaching Mike Sonko as Nairobi Governor

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju on Friday stated that he was not familiar with the claims that the party is planning to impeach Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Tuju exclaimed: "I am not familiar with the impeachment claims. I have only read about the purported statements on the papers."

On Friday, reports emerged of Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe accusing the County boss of seeking to block his impending impeachment by nominating NRM-K self-declared general Miguna Miguna as his deputy.

Speaking to journalists, Murathe disclosed that a plan to impeach Sonko was well on course as he maintained that Sonko's 'tantrums' would not derail it.

"Sonko is forestalling his impeachment which has nothing to do with the DG's position but his administration's dismal performance. He is covering up his mistakes by trying to divert attention. His nomination of Miguna is of no significance.

"The impeachment will proceed and it had to do with failures to deliver services to the people as was pledged by the party during campaigns. He can throw tantrums but they will have no consequences. We want action not talking lies," he declared.

However, Tuju noted: "The Vice Chair, David Murathe, is a member of NEC, therefore I am not sure if the group had a meeting on that.

"I have to talk to him first before I know what position he is in concerning those claims before I make an official comment on that," Tuju told Kenyans.co.ke.

When asked on whether there were any plans by the party to impeach Sonko, Tuju announced: "I have not heard any such plans. And as the Secretary-General, I only take my orders from the party leader, his deputy, and the NEC and I have not received any orders yet."

In his claims, Murathe further confirmed the speculation that Sonko had fallen out with the leadership of the party, stating that the nomination was a move to deflect attention away from his non-performance.
