Governor Joho Appointed Co-President of Maritime Cooperation Committee in China

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been appointed as the Co-President of the 21st Century Maritime Cooperation Committee in China.

The appointment was made in China's Fuzhou City, Fujian Province where Mombasa Deputy Governor William Kingi received the appointment Certificate on behalf of Joho.

A statement issued by Kingi reads in part: "I expressed my sincere delight and gratitude for the nomination of Governor Joho as a Co-President of the Maritime Cooperation Committee."

"It is an honour, which we accept with reverence as we look forward to serving with zeal and dedication," Kingi stated.

"In recognizing the honor bestowed upon Joho, I recognize the vision of the Presidents of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Kenya in executing various bilateral treaties and agreements that paved the way for county and municipal interactions.

"The significance of Governor Joho’s service as Co-President of this prestigious Maritime Cooperation Committee is both weighty and momentous," Joho's deputy indicated.

The 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee seeks to re-establish trade and investments routes of cities and Local Governments of Asia-Pacific, Southeast, South Asia and Africa through the Maritime Silk Road.

Kingi indicated that the appointment marked another milestone in a friendship established when Admiral Zheng He arrived in Mombasa whilst leading one of his historic fleets to the Indian Ocean.

"The marvel of that achievement is mirrored in this historic occasion. Gratitude for awarding us with this honourable position.

"The promise that the Maritime Silk Road Initiative holds for the County of Mombasa and indeed the Republic of Kenya has already been witnessed by the various economic and trade initiatives undertaken by our two countries," Kingi concluded.
