Turbo Girls High School Bus Overturns Injuring 50

A bus belonging to Turbo Girls High School overturned on Sunday injuring 50 people, 48 being students on the Sugoi-Kosichei road.

Confirming the incident, Turbo Deputy County Commissioner Mohammed Mwabudzo stated that the accident was caused by the heavy rains in the region.

"Heavy rains pounding the region is causing poor visibility. We call on motorists to exercise caution during this season," he stated.

The injured students were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for emergency treatment.

Speaking to journalists, MTRH chief executive Wilson Aruasa assured that all the passengers involved in the accident were in a stable condition.

"Most of them sustained soft tissue injuries but their lives are out of danger. We have also counselled them as some suffered a lot of shock," he explained.

At the time of the accident, the students were heading back to their school after attending a career talk at the neighbouring Kosachei Secondary School.

Earlier on Friday, 14 people were confirmed dead in a grisly road accident along the Kitale-Webuye highway.

This is after a Nissan matatu collided head-on with a tractor ferrying sugarcane at the Kamukuya Bridge blackspot.

All the occupants of the matatu died on the spot.
