Kenya's Trending Topics on May 21, 2018

Kenyans were on Monday engaged in discussions on social media following a report on the local dailies that shamed Members of Parliament (MPs) who were yet to debate in Parliament.

A report by People Daily named Nairobi Woman representative Esther Passaris among the poor debaters in the House, having only given her maiden speech in Parliament two weeks prior to the report.

The report elicited a number of reactions on the trending topic "Parliament", from members of the public who favoured the reduction of the number of slots for legislators.

The topic also trended following a ruling by High Court Judge John Mativo stripping MPs of their privilege not to be served while on parliament grounds.

Justice Mativo argued that the privilege contradicted with provisions of the constitution. The topic "High Court" also trended in connection with the ruling.

#WorldCulturalDay4Diversity

The Ministry of Sports and Heritage on Monday promoted the hashtag as the world marked the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development initiated by the United Nations (UN).

The Ministry shared various posts on aspects of culture in Kenya as they promoted the need for the Kenyan people to document their own culture.

Kenya marked the day with the official kick-off to the bullfighting season in Khayega, Kakamega County.

Here are some of the posts that were shared.
