Governor Sonko Explains Why He Held Cabinet Meeting at His Home

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko explained why he chaired a Cabinet meeting at his Mua home.

In a statement to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, the governor's communications team stated that the meeting was impromptu and Sonko had planned to a sit down with the CECs.

The statement further maintained that Governor Sonko had not moved his affairs from City Hall to his Mua home as widely reported.

Notably, photos emerged on Tuesday showing Sonko chairing a cabinet meeting from his Machakos home, which is under Governor Alfred Mutua’s jurisdiction.

Nairobi County Executive Members were on Sunday summoned to Sonko’s imposing Mua Hills home in Machakos to discuss county matters.

Reports further alleged that the county executives were again asked to hold a meeting at the Governor’s home on Monday.

Sonko’s first year in charge of the capital's affairs has come under extreme fire from both leaders and residents, with a section blaming him for the apparent mess in Nairobi.

The governor, however, defended himself and pointed a finger at cartels and the former administration for the ills bedevilling the county.

His decision to nominate exiled lawyer and politician Miguna Miguna as his deputy sparked off a storm in Jubilee Party, which opposed to the choice.

Some Jubilee leaders alleged that Sonko's move was meant to pre-empt his impeachment for failing to deliver on the promises Jubilee made to city residents.
