Mike Sonko's Next Action if County Assembly Rejects Miguna Miguna

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has revealed his next plan in the event his nominee for Deputy Governor, Miguna Miguna, is not approved by the County Assembly.

During an interview on KTN, the governor stated that he would appoint another person suited for the position.

"I'll just nominate another deputy governor. The constitution is very clear on what I should do in the event the office of the deputy governor falls vacant," he stated.

He further pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to forgive the self-styled National Resistance Movement (NRM) general and allow him into the country for the process to commence.

"To my President Uhuru, I say forgive Miguna Miguna. I was also insulted by him during the elections. He called me a drug baron, thief, cartel but all this has been overtaken by events because the campaign period is over.

"Miguna is my choice, so the president should let him ( Miguna) come back and if he accepts the nomination, we will work together, if he doesn't it is okay, I will find someone else," the governor stated.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the Director of the Governor's Press service Jacob Elkana clarified that in the event Miguna is rejected by the county assembly, they would carry out fresh shortlisting.

When questioned if the governor would use the initial list of names which comprised of five women, he stated: "The list is still active but we will still add more names as we consult, the same way Miguna was added for the nomination."

Earlier in March, Sonko released a shortlist of 22 people whom he would consider for the Deputy Governor position months after Polycarp Igathe's abrupt resignation.

A list which he narrowed down to Citizen TV journalist Anne Kiguta, Ministry of Public Works, Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh, former Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro, businesswoman Agnes Kagure and Nairobi lawyer Karen Nyamu.

He later made a surprise decision by nominating Miguna Miguna to deputize him.
