Exclusive: Uhuru Awards Man Who Breached Protocol During Matiba's Memorial with Probox

A man who breached protocol during veteran politician Kenneth Matiba's memorial service in Murang'a has gotten lucky after President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded him with his heart's desire.

Elijah Muraguri Wanjiku, a 29-year-old matatu driver daringly breached Uhuru's tight security to deliver a handwritten note detailing the budget breakdown of a project that he wanted him to fund.

The audacious act that was a combination of a risky gamble and bravado has finally paid off after the Head of State awarded him with a brand new Toyota Probox for which he had sought funding of Ksh880,000.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Muraguri narrated how he arrived at Murang'a Town shortly before the event was over and borrowed the foolscap-paper from a cybercafe on which he wrote the life-changing note.

Smartly dressed in a white shirt and a matching pair of trousers he underwent the security screening before being allowed into the stadium where he joined other mourners.

After spotting a vacant seat on the VIP dais, Muraguri patiently waited before seizing the opportunity and making his way to where Uhuru was seated together with Deputy President William Ruto.

Moments after shaking the president's hand, the security detail was almost whisking him away but Uhuru intervened and asked him: "How can I help you?"

Nearly running out of time, Muraguri reached into his pocket and handed the note he had written before being whisked away and booked at Murang'a Police Sation where he spent the next few days between Thursday and Monday.

An intervention by the Murang'a Police Boss saw him released on Free Bond and narrowly miss being charged with "causing a public disturbance."

When he walked out of the police cells, he found that he nearly missed on the golden opportunity as several attempts by the Head of State to reach him via his phone were futile since his phone had been confiscated.

Although his move at the requiem mass earned him 5 days in the police cells, the man on Monday visited the House on the Hill where he was gifted alongside Kenya High Girls who received a 51-seater bus and gym equipment worth Ksh8 million.

A delegation from the Office of the President finally handed-over the vehicle to Muraguri at Murang'a County Commissioners office on Wednesday after it was verified that he was indeed the man who had reached out to Uhuru.

Contrary to the tense moment in Murang'a where Uhuru's security detail swang into action and whisked him away, a delighted Muraguri remarked: "I will forever remain grateful to the Head of State for having come to my rescue by buying a vehicle that will help me venture into taxi business."

Speaking about the eventful day that has now changed his fortunes, the resident of Giakanja in Nyeri County revealed that he has been chancing for an opportunity to reach to Uhuru for the past two years in vain whom he lauded for supporting the less privileged in the society.

Matiba's memorial service at Ihura presented the best opportunity which he knew he had either to seize or regrets would forever haunt him and luckily, the heavens have finally smiled on him.
