Kalonzo, DP Ruto Attend City Hall Iftar Dinner

Deputy President William Ruto and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka are among leaders who attended a grand Iftar dinner hosted by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday night.

Sonko had invited all Muslim faithful to the dinner at Charter Hall, City Hall.

The packed event saw leaders including Kalonzo and Ruto step out in colourful kanzus.

Several Members of Parliament and Members of the County Assembly incuding Speaker Beatrice Elachi were also present.

Sonko stated that the dinner was meant to show solidarity with the Muslim community even as the Islamic holy month of Ramadan draws to a close on Friday.

Sonko announced that the county would set up games and play equipment at Uhuru Park for children to celebrate Eid ul Fitr.

He stated that they would offer free entry into the area for three days, declaring that this would be an annual occurence during his time in office,

A section of people were, however, not impressed by Sonko's dinner.

When a Twitter user questioned why he was not at the dinner, prominent lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi, a staunch critic of the Governor, questioned the source of the funds behind it.

"Before you go for such iftar you have to satisfy yourself that the source of the money is halal (permissible)...can you?" he posed.
