DP William Ruto's Allies Give Reasons Why Lifestyle Audit Will Not work

Leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have come out to explain why the presidential order on lifestyle audit might not function as highly expected by the public.

Led by Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei, the legislators indicated that while the directive is clear and well-intentioned, it is not supported by the law.

“The audit is a noble thing but it is not anchored by the law so at best it will be voluntary. It will be the repeat of when the president directed us to take pay cuts in the previous parliament and only him and then few of us took the cuts,” Kithure stated.

Pokot South MP David Pkosing added on Kindiki’s remarks noting that only a legal frame work will help people understand the process better.

“Lifestyle audit require legal framework so that there is no misunderstanding and abuse of duties. It is only after putting down the legality of the issue that we will work together. We don't want to be malicious to anybody. We seek to be objective driven,” the MP mentioned.

The leaders from Ruto’s camp also claimed that the audit could be politicized and turned into a witch hunt to end the careers of some politicians.

“We know that the real intention of informal government directives from within is to end the political careers of others,” Cherargei reported.

He further added that the fight against corruption will only be fruitful if it is sincere and not aimed at frustrating the political mileage of some individuals.

The leaders suggested that the exercise should be done in a holistic manner, focusing on all state officials.

On this note, Kapsaret Mp Oscar Sudi challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to list Kenyatta’s family wealth and that of Kenya’s first President Jomo Kenyatta.

Speaking on the same matter, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen noted that the order by the president does not make any sense.

“What is lifestyle audit? As has been said by who…in what legal framework...to be done and approved by who?" He posed in a recent interview on Citizen TV.
