Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi on Sunday deciphered the single act by Deputy President William Ruto's that has seen leaders from Mt Kenya region develop jitters.
According to Mutahi, the DP has jeopardized the support from the region known for entrepreneurship due to terming their support as a "debt" that they need to pay up.
The analyst through his weekly talk show The 5th Estate noted that for the enterprising community, the term "debt" rings alarm bells that once they payback the DP what they "owe" him, there will be no obligation on his side towards them.

"As a Kalenjin, Ruto is a warrior, but he is romancing the GEMA nation, a community of traders. His approach hence must be different," the analyst conveyed.
Mutahi further indicated that demanding "settlement of the debt" from Mt Kenya region was not an appealing methodology as the region was more interested in a relationship that would sustain them once President Uhuru Kenyatta exits State House.
"The point-blank approach that involves knocking doors in the region and asking them to "lipa deni (pay debt)" is not romance and does not appeal to the GEMA nation of traders," he added.
Mutahi pointed out that for the DP to succeed in 2022, he must change the approach and deviate from the warrior approach "where he gives and expects to receive".
Questioning the "debt collection approach", Mutahi stated that "a debt is a transaction and not a relationship" and GEMA would be more interested in a relationship.
"To tell the GEMA nation of traders that there is a debt to pay is to tell them that once the debt is paid, there will be no relationship," he added.

"If DP Ruto has a challenge with the GEMA nation, it is because of his debt collection approach as a warrior. Period," Mutahi concludes.
