Following her appointment as the acting National Youth Service (NYS) Director General, Matilda Sakwa has announced her first mission as she gears up to take over the reigns of the scandal-ridden institution.
Speaking to the Star for the first time since news of her appointment made it to the media, Matilda, who currently serves as Machakos County Commissioner, disclosed that she was determined to bring back NYS' lost glory by cracking down on cartels.
“I will be going to NYS with a clear mind, work with the team to bring back the lost glory of NYS. The institution’s focus should be on young men and women we are nurturing.
To cartels operating within NYS, she warned: “Just keep off! Let’s do good business with honest contractors with a view to achieving the goals of NYS.
"It’s a challenging position, all eyes are on me but I trust that I'm equal to the task. My experience and hard work have been rewarded and I will not betray this trust," she was quoted by the publication.

She expressed her gratitude in being appointed adding that she would report to her new office on Wednesday.
“It’s morally wrong when you betray the trust given to lead such an organization that brings hope to the youth. I thank the government for entrusting me with such assignment,” she added.
On Monday, Sakwa was appointed to take over from Richard Ndubai who is currently facing graft charges.
He was among 17 arrested in connection with the investigations on the Kshs9 Billion scandal at NYS.
During this year’s Madaraka Day fete, Matilda had reaffirmed her support for the ongoing fight against corruption. She warned civil servants against engaging in activities that may imperil their jobs.
She noted that public officers must be at the forefront in assisting the government in the fight against graft which has become a national eyesore.
