KBC Requests Funding Before Senate ICT Committee

Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) managers on Tuesday received a scathing comeback after they appeared before the Senate ICT Committee.

The senators urged the managers to improve on their ability to "attract and retain talent" at the government-owned media house.

The senators further urged the corporation to improve and work on a comprehensive restructuring plan to ensure the public operates efficiently.

The committee chaired by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi hard-pressed the managers to justify their request for funding.

The managers were also tasked to explain why they had failed to remit statutory deductions from their employees over a period of time.

The KBC managers had lamented that Treasury had taken a long time to dispatch the funds to the corporation.

The managers further noted that they were unable to meet the costs of their financial obligations due to the delay at Treasury.

In an article published online by the broadcaster noted that they had "plans to restructure and revamp its operations", citing that insufficient funding and at times delayed funding from treasury impeding on its operations.

The managers pleaded with the Gideon Moi-led committee to push for the funds to be disbursed by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.

The broadcaster has in the past experienced trouble with workers over failure to meet the requirements of a signed collective bargaining agreement.
