University Students Nabbed Over Porn Movies Production

University students were among eight people who were arrested in connection with the production of pornographic films and drug trafficking.

According to police reports, the eight were in possession of 41 rolls and 21 grams of marijuana, a laptop, camera and other electronic devices suspected to have been used for filming pornographic content.

Administration Police Officers who carried out the bust explained they acted on a tip-off of suspicious activity going on in the single room apartment at Blue Valley Estate on the outskirts of Embu town.

The prosecution applied to have the suspects denied bail arguing their boarding area was unknown and they were likely to face more charges of pornographic filming.

Embu West Director of Criminal Investigation George Etiyang did not divulge a lot of information stating that investigations were still ongoing to establish the contents of the laptop and camera.

One of the suspects, Cornelius Nyaga, was released on a bond of Ksh80,000 with a surety of a similar amount while the other seven were released on a Ksh50,000 bond with a surety of similar amount as the hearing of the case was set for August 6, 2018.

Last year, the country grappled with the sad reality of child pornography after minors in Nakuru accused a 45-year-old man of showing them pornographic movies.

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) adopted a multi-agency approach in an effort to crackdown on online sites promoting illegal activities in the country.

Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua stated they were investigating reports about the existence of a foreign syndicate dealing with child pornography and promoting illicit drugs through illegal websites.

According to the Computer and Cybercrimes Bill, those found guilty of publishing child pornography are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding twenty million or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twenty-five years, or to both.
