President Uhuru, Raila Tour With Magufuli to Migori Has Been Postponed

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Tanzanian counterpart John Magufuli's maiden trip to Migori has been postponed.

Speaking to Nation, Rongo Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Abuor noted that the meeting was postponed since opposition leader Raila Odinga is still on diplomatic tour to India.

Additionally, security officials revealed that it was postponed to accommodate all the guests' diaries.

Migori County officials stated that they have intensified surveillance ahead of the presidents' visit to the area.

The three leaders are expected to head to the common border in Nyatike where they will meet to resolve some of the border issues affecting residents on both sides followed by a public rally in Migori town.

However, reports indicate that the tour may face a challenge of increased smuggling of contraband goods and illegal substances across the border.

The tour, which will be the first for Uhuru since his re-election after the disputed 2017 election that saw the region boycott the repeat polls, also aims to have Uhuru explain the Building Bridges initiative to the residents.

Posting on his Facebook page, National Resistance Movement (NRM-K) leader Miguna Miguna condemned the leaders' visit claiming that it "is an expensive PR exercise."

According to the outspoken leader, "Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga should host Magufuli in Migingo Island. They must confront the inhuman conditions that those Migori residents are forced to live and work in."

In his post, Miguna also revisited how Migori residents refused to vote during the October 26, 2017 elections on claims of electoral justice in Kenya.

He added: " Raila's despicable recognition of Uhuru Kenyatta, after the latter had murdered 500 innocent Kenyans (a lot of them in Migori County) betrays the interests and aspirations of Migori residents.

"Having not voted during the October exercise, the residents of Migori remain disenfranchised since Uhuru imposed himself on them as president," Miguna exclaimed.

Miguna also called on the Migori residents to "reject the cynical PR exercise Raila Odinga, Uhuru Kenyatta and Pombe Magufuli will be engaged in."
