Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu addressed reports alleging he bought Ksh1.8 billion property with public funds which made him a target by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
Speaking in Kiambu County, Waititu denied having purchased the property during his 10 months stay in office.
More reports alleged that the governor was under investigation for irregularly awarding the members of his family contracts worth Ksh573 million.
“That is a big lie. I want people to know that even before venturing in politics 20 years ago when I was elected councilor, I was already driving a Mercedes limousine and a Range Rover beside owning a palatial home in Nairobi and running 25 lorries on the road,” the Kiambu County boss explained.

Notably, the governor defended himself stating that government agency involved in fighting corruption in the country had sought him over the allegations trending on the social media.
Governor Waititu urged those circulating the allegations to go to banks and find out the amount of loan he had taken to purchase the properties in question.
The governor stated: "Even as a governor, I have every right to take loans from banks as long as we qualify and buy whatever we want to buy.”
He attributed the information circulating on social media to his political detractors who he stated were keen on challenging him for the governorship come 2022.
The governor maintained he was in full support of the fight against corruption being spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta, adding he was ready for a lifestyle audit as directed by the president recently.

“People should not use the ongoing fight against graft to settle political scores and fighting those they are intending to vie against in the next elections," Governor Waititu stated.
