DPP Noordin Haji Orders Arrest of 11 Kenya Power Managers

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has ordered the arrest of 11 members of the Kenya Power company. 

In a statement issued by the DPP, he listed the officers who are under investigations by the office of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

"I have directed the DCI to immediately cause the arrest of the following persons and have them arraigned in court to answer charges," Haji exclaimed.

Here are the officers listed: 
1. Ben Chumo - Former MD & CEO KPLC
2. Dr Ken Tarus - GM, Finance(as he was)
3. Beatrice Meso - GM, Corporate Affairs & Company Secretary
4. Peter Mungai Kinuthia - GM, Business Strategy
5. Joshua Mutua - GM, Commercial Services
6. Abubakar Swaleh - GM, Human Resource and Administration
7. Samuel Ndirangu - GM, Information Communication Technology
8. Stanley Mutwiri - GM, Infrastructure Development
9. Benson Muriithi - GM, Network Management
10. Peter Mwicigi - GM, Regional Co-ordination
11. John Ombui - GM, Supply Chain

Additionally, DPP noted that he has received two files from the DCI that highlight the tenders for supply of transformers and contracts for the supply of labor and transport services. 

"Upon review of the 2 files, it has emerged that the KPLC management has been in cahoots with private individuals and companies engaging in criminal activities requiring decisive and robust action," the statement read in part.

He further stated that the decision to arrest the top management of the company is regrettable but is in the interest of the public in order to combat and deter corrupt activities within the organisation.

The DPP also explained that the 11 managers will be facing five charges, including conspiracy to commit an offense of economic crime contrary to section 47A(3) as in the Anti-Corruption and Economics Crimes Act 2003. 

The other charges are, aiding the commission of the felony, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with the Law relating to procurement and conspiracy to defeat justice.

The announcement came on Saturday after DCI officers arrested Former Kenya Power Managing Director Ben Chumo alongside Kenya Power managers Beatrice Meso and Peter Mwicigi.
