Swaleh Mdoe Gives Final Address for Citizen Extra

Citizen TV anchor Swaleh Mdoe on Friday announced the end of the weekday, mid-morning Citizen Extra show that started airing during the 2017 election season.

Mdoe made it clear that the Friday segment would be the final production of the show while expressing his joy at being the last anchor to present.

A translation of the Swahili presenter's closing note conveyed: "That marks the end of Citizen Extra for today and it is also the final edition of the show.

"Should you happen to view it at a later date then don't believe it because this is the last show. I'm lucky to have been the last presenter and I invite you to join us for a new segment on Monday," he announced.

Mdoe further told viewers that beginning Monday, a whole new segment would be introduced and the newly acquired anchors would be unveiled then.

Without giving more details on what the new show would entail, the anchor promised "mambo ya kusisimua na kuchangamsha (new and exciting things)" to the viewers.

The show was structured to have a section that was wholly conducted in English and presented by either Waihiga Mwaura or Fred Indimuli and consisted majorly of panel discussions with political figures.

The Swahili section of the show was initially hosted by Salim Swaleh before he left the station and it has since been hosted by Swaleh Mdoe and others.

A promotional trailer of the new-look news team was released on July 16 featuring celebrated journalists Nimrod Taabu, Jamila Mohamed, Rashid Abdalla and Mashirima Kapombe who recently joined Royal Media Services (RMS).

The seasoned anchors are also set to host the daily Swahili bulletin on various days with the most surprising highlight being the Nipashe Wikendi bulletin for Saturday and Sunday that will be hosted by husband and wife duo, Rashid Abdalla and Lulu Hassan.
