Man Cuts Own Neck in Power Saw Accident in Kisii

A family in Kisii County is gripped with shock after their sole breadwinner died under horrific circumstances on Friday.

Mr. Peter Kurendi, who is in his late 40s has been a  darling in his home area as the most sought-after chainsaw operator until he met his painful death on Friday.

The father of five and grandfather to three was close to his home at Riambase village, Omokonge Sub-location in Bobasi constituency where he had been contracted to fell trees in the company of his younger brother.

Over the years, Kurendi has been using his chainsaw as a means of livelihood.

He is well known in the area as he always comes handy in tree felling, limbing, bucking, pruning, cutting firebreaks for homes and institutions as churches and schools.

On Friday at around 2 PM, the chainsaw turned its highly powered teeth moving on a rotating chain that runs along a blade-like guide bar on him.

Kenyans.co.ke saw gorry images from the scene where the machine slit Kurendi in the neck and badly damaged his shoulder.

According to the area Assistant Chief Peter Kayago, locals attempted to save his life but he could not make it to Kisii Level 5 hospital.

Witnesses say Kurendi fell after stepping on a piece of wood, falling on the angry machine as he extracted timber.

He was pronounced dead on arrival and his body was moved to Nyamache Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.
