Over 500 Senior Police Bosses Moved in Mass Reshuffle

Over 500 senior police officers have been moved in a mass reshuffle, a move aimed at targeting officers who have overstayed in their current positions.

Deputy Inspector General of Police George Mbugua shifted 433 Chief Inspectors (CI) and 70 Inspectors of Police (IP)

Through a circular from Mbugua’s office, the officers are expected to report to their new offices immediately.

“The Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Service has approved the deployment of the following officers with immediate effect. Release the officers to report to their new stations by 14th August 2018 and confirm departure/ arrival by casualty return,” it reads.

The reforms affect the General Service Unit (GSU), Traffic Department, Kenya Police Airwing, Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU).

Among those affected include Chief Inspector Joseph Ngao attached to Nairobi Area Traffic patrol who has been moved to Kericho Traffic Office.

Long-serving Central Police Station boss Alphonce Ngundo has been moved to Ongata Rongai after serving in Nairobi for 5 years.

Two OCSs Peter Khakali and Ambrose Kambaki have been promoted to deputy OCPDs of Lower Yatta.

The reforms went against the norm of officers having to serve as OCSs before being promoted to be OCPDs.

Several officers skipped rank after this new development.

Recently, Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti made similar changes affecting 368 officers.
