Mike Sonko Suspends Nairobi Health CEC

On Tuesday, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko suspended health CEC and County health director over the poor state of health facilities.

The two are Health Executive Member Majevdia Hitan and Health Director Thomas Ogaro.

The county boss cited their lax in performing delegated duties and failed to inspect health facilities in the county.

He also indicated that they would be held liable for the lack of medicine in many facilities within the capital.

Sonko gave them 14 days to explain why Nairobi County medical facilities have had poor services over the past few months.

The suspension comes two days after the governor suspended his chief of staff Brian Mugo over misuse of funds.

Mugo was suspended together with acting Finance Chief Officer Ekaya Alumasi and acting Head of Treasury Stephen Mutua.

Announcing their suspension, Sonko requested the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to assist him to investigate the issue.

His recent move is noted to be among a series of suspensions that he has made in his government in a bid to purge corruption and misappropriation of public funds at City Hall.

The Nairobi governor has been recorded warning members of his cabinet, as well as other county officials, that he will "not hesitate to fire anyone found engaging in corruption."
