President Uhuru Issues Citizen's Arrest Directive

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday asked the youth in the country to play an active role in the ongoing war against corruption.

Speaking at Kisii School during the International Youth Day celebrations, Uhuru indicated that going forward, the youth should do all it takes to root out corruption including carrying out citizen's arrest.

Uhuru indicated that the youth should take it upon themselves to forward corruption cases to the authorities regardless of whom is concerned.

"Youth must be at the forefront. Even if it's your father who is engaging in corrupt practice, you should be able to speak out against it.

"Whether it's a police officer, MCA or an MP any other leader, carry out a citizen's arrest and hand them into the police," the President stated in an off the cuff remark.

The Head of State indicated that it is high time all people came together to fight corruption in the country given that impunity was the biggest hindrance towards attaining development.

"Nobody should intimidate you in this war just because they have a lot of money. If you successfully carry out the arrests, the wealth they own illegally will be repatriated to the public kitty.

"The power is in your hands to end this vice (corruption) in our country. You must take it up. Msiogope mtu (Don't fear anyone)," he stated as the attendees applauded.

Speaking earlier on during a church service at Faith Evangelistic Ministry in Karen, Uhuru indicated that he is ready to lose even his friends to win the war against corruption.

"Over the last few weeks, I have lost many friends. Many have called me asking: 'How can you be watching when all the destruction is going on?' I say; a time has come to fight impunity.

"Let us lose our friends and do what is right in the eyes of God. We shall gain other friends. Let us create a society that respects and treasures hard work and integrity, a nation with a conscience," he declared.

He reiterated that his administration would not relent in the process to restore the country's lost glory.

"It is for us to harness that power. Kenya is in a stage of transformation. We must resist that which stops us from transforming. We must empower each and every one of us," he added.
