Accounts by eyewitnesses alleged that the ill-fated matatu belonging to Kiptere Travellers Sacco was being driven at high speed when its front tyre burst making the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Those who were admitted at Kaplong Hospital following the accident were said to be in a stable condition according to the medics attending them.

Bomet County Police Commandant Naomi Ichami confirmed the accident indicating that her officers have launched investigations into the accident.

In December 2016, three family members lost their lives along the same stretch after a matatu belonging to Wareng Sacco collided with a bus from the Easy Coach company.

The 2016 accident left 12 other family members who had hired the vehicle to attend a graduation ceremony at Maasai Mara University in Narok nursing serious injuries.

Again in March 2018, two people perished at the same Kamureito area while five others were critically injured in another grisly road accident involving a Nissan matatu and a saloon car.

Police reports then indicated that the driver of the saloon car lost control, veered off the lane, and crashed head-on with the oncoming matatu.
