Citizen Anchor Mashirima Kapombe Narrates Assault Ordeal

Citizen TV news anchor Mashirima Kapombe has narrated her traumatic assault ordeal by a male employee at Panari Anga Sky Cinema during a weekend out.

Breaking the news of her assault nightmare, Mashirima recounted:  "I've always thought of myself as brave and fearless. I would be saddened by stories of women assaulted by men in broad daylight as others watched and some filmed".

Although she did not dwell on the particulars of the Sunday incident, the journalist revealed that she reported the case to the manager on duty took who took over the case.

"The manager, Edna apologised for the conduct of their employee and that of the Cinema attendant who didn't take action when we first reported to him.

"She even offered a complimentary movie to make up. The reality is, the great experiences I had previously at Panari ended yesterday," Mashirima relived the experience.

Hinting at the psychological impact of the traumatic experience, the news anchor indicated that when she woke up a day later, the experience was still fresh in her mind: "I don't feel so fearless. I don't feel brave".

"It felt a little better knowing there was somewhere, someone I could run to. I reported. Then walked away.

"But, the look on the man's face even as the manager stepped in reminded me of how many remain silent because they would rather walk away and put it all behind them," she added.

The assault meted out on the journalist brings to the fore one of the thorny issues that the society grapples with its reality - Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Her encounter comes shortly after a video of a lady identified as Winfred Mwende being brutally attacked by her husband Daniel Nzomo as witnesses looked on sparked outrage across social media.

Another video surfaced showing a Roysambu man, Kamau Wanjiru, being brutally assaulted by a woman over Ksh200 debt with police calling for people to volunteer information that could lead to her arrest.
