Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana Reveals His 1 Leadership Regret

Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana on Monday revealed his major leadership regret in the country's history.

Through his Twitter account, Kibwana indicated he regrets that the devolved government structure was discontinued in 1964.

"Sometimes I look at the idea of devolution initiated at Independence in Kenya and when I see the gains we have been able to make since 2013, I see a wasted opportunity," the Makueni County boss noted.

Governor Kibwana, who is hosting the other 46 governors for a peer-learning exercise, indicated that the public participation approach was the force behind his country's tremendous success.

"Makueni County is happy to be associated with this historic part of our country’s devolution journey and I must say I am humbled to be part of every bit of this #GovernorsPeerLearningMission as the governor of Makueni.

"We have made strides in making every government initiative a product of public participation by inviting the people to take charge and to be part of major ideas being processed for implementation," he indicated.

The Makueni county chief further elaborated that the devolution success under his leadership has seen the citizens involved right from the project identification, monitoring implementation and certifying the completion.

"In Makueni, the people do not just give their views and leave it there. They become part and parcel of the process.

"At various levels on the ground, they must approve completed projects. It is only when they are satisfied that the County Government can process payments," Governor Kibwana added.

"We are firm believers in the fact that when we do development with the people, they own the development and you ultimately empower them. The rallying call for us in the county government has been People + Government = Development," the Makueni boss concluded.
