The Inspector-General of Police Joseph Kipchirchir Boinett on Friday ordered the investigation and possible arrest of Members of Parliament in connection with recent killings.
Boinnet indicated that the MPs from Marsabit and Narok have been thwarting security enforcement and peace restoration measures by inciting the locals into tribal clashes.
Terming the intelligence brief as "very disturbing information", Boinnet noted that the county security teams were working hard to contain the violence between communities in Marsabit and Narok counties.
"Some identified politicians are undermining these efforts. by inciting their supporters to escalate the fighting," the IG revealed on Twitter.
"I have ordered thorough investigations into their conduct with a view to arresting and charging them in court, in the event they are found in breach of any law," he added.
According to IG Boinnet, officers in the affected areas have been given instructions to deal firmly with any lawbreakers in accordance with the law.
Sources have often blamed political players for the frequent tribal conflicts among the pastoralist communities.
For instance, on May 15, 2018, a vehicle bearing the Government of Kenya registration plate was nabbed along the Lowdar-Kakuma Road ferrying firearms from South Sudan.
The vehicle said to belong to a Turkana MP was nabbed with 6 AK-47 rifles, 6 magazines and 30 rounds of ammunition which were hidden behind the driver’s seat.
A former MCA was also linked to the cache of ammunition believed to be behind the high levels of bandit related insecurity incidences experienced in the region.
