Services MPs Want President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP William Ruto Denied

Some Members of Parliaments suggested that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto reduce the cash allocated to their offices in the budget.

Led by Butere lawmaker Tindi Mwale, the legislators opined that the President and the DP should reduce their foreign trips and local trips.

Mwale asked the National government to disclose and slash the budgets for the offices of the President, the DP, the ministries of Defence and Interior.

However, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke noted that some of the trips that the President and DP made were of national importance.

Barasa suggested that the President should do away with one of his big four agenda.

"One of the big four should be dropped. I would say the plan to build houses should be halted and instead reduce the taxes on construction material," the Kimilili MP opined.

"Not all Kenyans will afford those houses and we can't subject the taxpayer to this. We need to cut excessive spending," he added.

The legislators opposed the eight percent fuel tax proposal that will be tabled in Parliament by Majority Leader Aden Duale on Thursday.

During his State of the Nation Address on Friday, the President proposed wide-ranging cuts across all arms of government targeting non-priority spendings such as hospitality, foreign and domestic travel, training and seminars.

The Treasury plans to save Ksh52 billion from the spending cuts and aiming at scrapping Ksh5 billion allocated to Parliament and the Senate as well as Ksh6 billion for the CDF kitty.

Roads agencies' budget will be chopped by Ksh8.7 billion. The money was meant for rehabilitation of roads and infrastructure damaged by heavy rain across the country between April and June.
