Police Car Kills Standard 7 Pupil

An administration police officer's private car ran over and killed a Standard Seven pupil on the spot in a tragic incident in Vihiga County.

The vehicle is reported to have been speeding when it hit the primary school boy and two of his friends near Mbale Town.

The injured pupils were rushed to Mbale Hospital while the body of Eugene Kizengwe was taken to the Mbale Referal Hospital mortuary.

A witness, Peter Ligare, who spoke to members of the press related that the AP who was driving the car at the moment appeared to have been drunk.

The officer's colleagues were said to be conducting investigations into the claim that the driver was driving under the influence.

Residents of the area have, however, launched protests demanding for speedy justice for the boy who was killed.

Area OCPD Justine Nyaga confirmed the report explaining that the pupils were beside the road when the incident occurred.

"We were informed that the driver lost control of the car and hit the pupils who were standing on the roadside, killing one on the spot and injuring two," the officer relayed.
