DP William Ruto Donates Ksh2 Million to Cyrus Jirongo's Bail

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday donated Ksh2 Million to bail out former presidential candidate Cyrus Jirongo from jail.

Confirming the contribution, Sports CS Richard Achesa expressed his gratitude following the DP's lumpsum deposit.

“The DP was very kind enough to help us with his donation,” Achesa was quoted by the Star.

The history between Ruto and Jirongo dates back to the early1990s when they both belonged to a lobby group popularly known as the ‘Youth for Kanu 92'.

The group was involved in campaigning for former President Daniel Moi during the first multi-party election.

The two later fell out due to reported differences in political ideologies.

Jirongo has since been riddled with financial difficulties following an unsuccessful run for the country's top seat.

After being unable to pay debts, he was declared bankrupt finding him unable to pay debts amounting to Ksh700 Million.

On Tuesday, Jirongo was arrested for failing to pay a Ksh20 Million debt owed to businessman Brian Yongo.

A number of Luhya leaders fundraised to save the embattled politician from languishing in jail.

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa deposited his sleek Mercedes Benz as surety for Jirongo.
